Polish Cello Quartet

Born in Katowice, he started his musical education at the age of seven in the cello class of Anna Hryniów-Kościów at the F. Chopin Primary and Secondary State Music School in Opole. Since 2003 he has worked under the supervision of Prof. Stanisław Firlej. He graduated with honours in 2006, performing P. Tchaikovsky's Variations on a Roccoco Theme with the Opole Philharmonic Orchestra.

In June 2011 he completed his studies at the Academy of Music in Łódź (diploma with honours), where he was trained by Prof. Stanisław Firlej. For one year he worked as assistant lecturer in the cello class at the Academy of Music in Łódź. Since 2009 Krzysztof has studied with Michael Flaksman and Jelena Očić at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst w Mannheim.

Chamber music is Krzysztof Karpeta's great passion. As a chamber performer he has participated in classes run by, among others, Roberto Trainini, Jonathan Zak, Andrzej Ratusiński, Paul Badura–Skoda, Jose Gallardo, Alexander Bonduriansky, Paul Dan. In a duet with Michał Rot, in 2010 he won a distinction for the best performance of a work by a Polish composer at the International Chamber Music Competition in Łódź. In the field of chamber music, Krzysztof Karpeta has collaborated with Bartłomiej Nizioł, Agata Szymczewska, Piotr Tarcholik, Szymon Krzeszowiec, Vladimir Mendelssohn, Jadwiga Rappé, Michael Flaksman, Jose Gallardo, Viktor Bogino, and Mats Lidstroem. In 2011 with three outstanding Polish cellists of the young generation (Adam Krzeszowiec, Wojciech Fudala and Tomasz Daroch) he founded the Polish Cello Quartet, the only group in Poland playing music originally written for cello quartet. Members of the Quartet are the organizers and originators of the International Cello Academy in Nysa (Poland) which is thought to promote cello chamber music among students.

Krzysztof performs during numerous music festivals, including: Settembre in Musica Ascoli Piceno, Forum Musicum, International Bach Festival in Świdnica. International Festival Wratislavia Cantans, Carl Orff Music Festival Putignano, Przemyska Jesień Muzyczna, Dolnośląski Festiwal Muzyczny, and Princess Daisy International Ensemble Music Festival. As a soloist he has cooperated with, inter alia, Filharmonia Podkarpacka, Filharmonia Częstochowska, Łódź Philharmonic, Wrocław Chamber Orchestra Leopoldinum, Filharmonia Kaliska, Capella Cracoviensis, Chamber Philharmonic in Łomża, and Univeristätorchester Mannheim. Early music has been his fascination for many years now. In November 2012 playing the viola da gamba in a duet with his wife he won the 2nd prize at the International Early Music Competition in Żory.

Since 2014 Krzysztof Karpeta is a solo cellist with the Polish Baltic Philharmonics in Gdańsk and guest concertmaster with the Przemyśl Chamber Orchestra. He was also a member of Justus Franz's Philharmonie der Nationen. His other collaborations include Wratislavia Cantans Festival Orchestra, Kraków Philharmonic, Łódź Philharmonic, Wrocław Philharmonic, Wrocław Chamber Orchestra Leopoldinum, Polish String Orchestra, and Landesjugendorchester Rheinland-Pfalz. Krzysztof Karpeta has recorded on labels DUX, CD Accord, MUSICON and CHANDOS.

At present he works as an lecturer in cello and chamber music class at the Academy of Music in Wrocław. In 2017 he defended his doctoral dissertation.
